Space…

It doesnt sit right with me for a number of reasons…

Firstly, I dont like where it is in relation to the rest of the room, the table in the corner makes the room feel uneven and its completely ruining it, but the plynth in the opposite corner is alright in relation to the wall drawing…

The bottom right hand corner I like, but its far to dark, perhaps would have worked better if it had been closer to the colouring of the top of the collage…

It’s faaaaaar to close to one of the artists I was looking at, I dont care if I have been told its ‘ok’, it doesnt sit right with me…

The collage done directly on to the wall in the adjecent corner is not good, it has’nt pushed the idea along any further by treating the wall as the paper because its impossible to do the drawing without considering the rest of the room, using a wall from the room doesnt give the same boundaries that the paper does, therefore, doesnt look right in the end…

Perhaps if the direct wall drawing was there on its own it would be better, but the room has degenerated into a place for me to fuck about in because I messed the first one up in the first place…

I dont know if I feel negatively about it because I want to do the models and cant get past them…or if the past two days in the space have just reaffirmed that the models are the best way to go…

Either way, my crits tommorow and I am thoroughly annoyed at myself.

Cheers.

Crit Aftermath…

15/10/2008

Well, it was fairly uneventfull tbh…

Bob felt that my thing was pretty decent, and suggested I book the ‘white room’ in the fourth year studio to get a clear space for meself next week…

Gonna use it to do the drawins, and treat it as a big piece of paper as apose to struggling with the instillation idea I was doing, it should, if all goes to plan, achieve what I wanted to do with it regardless…

Also considering making maquettes of the drawings I’ve done, in the style of architectural models. A number of reasons brought me to this, but the main ones being the precise style of the drawings lend themselves well to this idea and also, the idea of the images hinting at something much larger, I feel the models could do this without sacraficing any of the qualities in the drawings…

So, Im going to speak to Allan in woodwork tommorow and see what he says but as it stands Iv picked the two drawings below to start with…

Thats kind of it for today, done a few wee sketches of how I hop e the models to look but there slightly redundant as its more or less as is on the drawings above…

Speak to you tommorow…

The box of masking tape is where the second pice of woods going to go, in the process of doing sketches as to what shape it will take…

Hey…just got s’more images of the maquette and a sketch…

At the moment I’m a bit pissef off with it…not quite what I had in mind when I started but hopefully the more I work into it the better it will get…

I see it being the start of something larger…I intend to draw out from the wood on the other leg, hopfully leading into another wooden structure, leading to more lines, leading to the end of the wall….I’l post a wee sketch of it once I do one…

Cheers

ade my maquette thing yesterday, I see it as being one of two things, a small piece of a larger structure, or the starting point of a physical object collage thingamy.

Due to the time constraints of the brief, and the limited space afforded at present but I will spend the next week experimenting with the maquette in the space…

I like the idea of using it as the start of something, drawing on the maquette, off the maquette, onto the wall, perhaps making another vague shape if the lines dictate that…………..Bit wanky sounding though.

Will maybe post sketch of the idea this afternoon…

Much like the last post, I prefer the first drawing and dislike the second…Id save a whole lot of time if I just stopped after the first one I guesse…
